The education

From curiosity to knowledge you can live with – and guide others in

Ayurveda is about understanding how diet, routines, seasons, and lifestyle affect the body and mind. Many in the Nordic region have encountered it through a course, a book, or a treatment and felt that there is so much more to understand.

The Ayurveda Wellness Counselor program is for those who want to go the whole distance. With 651 hours of instruction, the program is more than twice as extensive as the approximately 250 hours typically offered in Sweden today. You will learn the classic knowledge tradition in depth, and how to apply it in everyday life – for yourself and for others.

And you don't need to travel to India or the USA to do that.

A collaboration between Ananda Ayurveda Academy & Ayurvedic Center Malmö

Ananda Ayurveda Academy

Ananda Ayurveda Academy (AAA) in the USA owns and runs the training. The academy focuses on classical Ayurveda and practical application, and is responsible for teaching, course materials, and certification.

Ayurvedic Center Malmö

The Ayurvedic Center Malmö is AAA’s local partner in the Nordic region. Here you will meet during the course weekend, and here there is a growing community of people who work with and live Ayurveda.

International quality and a certification from an established academy – with local roots and a network in the Nordic region.

Why this is needed

More knowledge about how we stay healthy – not just how we get sick

Swedish healthcare is good at treating illness, but much of what determines how we feel depends on what happens between visits: how we sleep, eat, work and recover. There are currently few people with the knowledge to provide individual guidance on a holistic level.

At the same time, stress-related mental illness is the most common reason for sick leave in Sweden (Försäkringskassan). The need for people who can help others build sustainable habits has never been clearer.

From reacting – to preventing

Ayurveda begins in everyday life, long before anything becomes a problem. You learn to recognize early signs – poor sleep, uneven digestion, low energy – and help people change the habits that lie behind them.

From the same advice to everyone – advice that suits the individual

Diet and sleep advice is often given as if everyone works the same way. Ayurveda is based on the idea that we are all unique and that two people may need completely different things, and provides you with a system to understand why.

From struggling against the seasons – to living by them

In the Nordic region, light, cold and seasonal ingredients fluctuate significantly throughout the year. Ayurveda provides concrete tools for adapting food, routines, and activities to the seasons – knowledge that fits exceptionally well here.

From traveling away for the knowledge – to building this

Those who want to study Ayurveda in depth have so far often had to travel to places like India or the USA. Every person who is trained in the Nordic countries makes the knowledge available to more people here.

The professional role

What it means to be an Ayurveda Wellness Counselor

You can sit down with a person, understand their constitution and life situation, and together develop a plan for food, sleep, routines, and recovery that they can actually follow in their everyday life. You are working preventatively – as a complement to care, not in place of it.

It can look in many ways:

  • a dedicated reception with individual consultations
  • Courses and workshops on diet and seasonal routines
  • as a deepening in an occupation you already have – in the yoga studio, the treatment room, or the kitchen
  • in working on health promotion and recovery at workplaces
  • at home, how you cook meals and plan the days for you and your family

Where knowledge makes a difference

Ayurveda doesn't just belong in the treatment room

The core of Ayurveda – adapting food, rhythm, and recovery to the individual, the time of day, and the seasons – can be applied in everyday life and far beyond the boundaries of the individual clinic.

Workplaces & organizations

How the workday is structured affects the energy level just as much as how much work needs to be done. The knowledge can be used in health promotion, in leadership training, and in change management – for example, in how meetings, breaks, and demanding tasks are distributed over the day and year.

School and school food

For many children, school meals are the most important part of the day. Ayurveda’s dietary teachings can provide perspective on seasonal menus, meal rhythms, and foods that can withstand a day at school—and on how children can learn to recognize what makes them feel good.

Healthcare and care

In addition to healthcare, this knowledge can strengthen preventive efforts and self-care – with lifestyle advice based on the individual. It can also support staff themselves: healthcare, schools, and care services are the sectors where sick leave rates are highest.

Elderly care

Appetite, digestion, sleep and circadian rhythms change with age. Ayurveda’s view of warm, easily digestible food and fasting routines can provide concrete ideas for meals and daily routines in nursing homes and in home care services.

Restaurant, catering and food

The raw ingredients of the season, the function of spices, and food that is easy to digest – knowledge that can shape menus, product development, and large kitchens that want to cook food with both taste and intention.

Sport & exercise

Ayurveda sees recovery, sleep, and diet as part of performance. The knowledge can be used by coaches and trainers who want to prevent overtraining and customize the training program more than the standard program.

Civic education & culture

Student associations, community colleges, and cultural centers reach people who want to learn more about food, health, and lifestyle. Here, an Ayurveda Wellness Counselor can lead courses and lectures that make the knowledge accessible to more people.

Family & Home

The biggest changes often start at the kitchen table: in how a family eats, sleeps, and spends their days—and in the habits that children carry with them.

Every person who is trained in the knowledge is passing it on – to clients, students, colleagues and their own family. That is how the view of health changes in practice: through more people who know how to stay healthy, and can teach others.

The core of the education

Four goals for a meaningful life

In Ayurveda and classical Indian philosophy, a good life is described with four goals, the Purusharthas. Health is not the goal itself. It is the prerequisite for living a life with meaning, security, joy, and freedom. The training is designed to provide you with all four.

Dharma

Meaningful work

Dharma is about responsibility: doing what is right for yourself, others and the world around you.

For youYou gain the knowledge to take responsibility for your own health, and a profession where you help others do the same.
Outside of youMore people who can prevent ill health in everyday life – in families, in workplaces and in healthcare.

Artha

A stable foundation to stand on

Artha are the conditions that make life safe: livelihood, resources, and stability.

For youA certification and 651 hours of training that count as professional foundation – including entrepreneurship and how to build your own business.
Outside of youHealth is a resource. Those who are able to work can do so, care for their loved ones, and contribute to society.

Kama

Joy in everyday life

Kama is joy, pleasure, and satisfaction. Ayurveda sees it as a legitimate goal, not something to sacrifice for health's sake.

For youFood that tastes good, routines that make the days easier, and a way of living that feels good – not strictly.
Outside of youAn approach to health that is based on what makes us feel good, rather than on prohibitions and achievements.

Moksha

Freedom through knowledge

Moksha means liberation, including from ignorance.

For youAs you understand how your body and mind work, you become less dependent on trends, quick fixes, and conflicting health advice. You can choose for yourself.
Outside of youKnowledge that is shared makes more people independent in how they take care of their health.

In short

Knowledge for a life with meaning, security, joy and freedom – for you and those you meet.

Dharma
Do something that matters – for yourself and others.
Artha
A training that is enough to build a career on.
Kama
Health that makes life better, not stricter.
Moksha
Understand yourself so well that you can choose for yourself.

Your teachers

Learn from two Ayurvedic doctors

The knowledge of Ayurveda has been passed down from teacher to student for thousands of years. Here you meet two teachers who have both practiced as doctors and taught for many years – and who are with you every week.

[1]

Dr (Vaidya) Ashlesha Raut

Program Manager, Ananda Ayurveda Academy

Ashlesha is an Ayurvedic physician of the third generation, with over 25 years of experience in clinical work and teaching. She has been awarded a gold medal for her academic achievements and the Charaka Award for her contributions to Ayurvedic teaching.

As program manager at AAA, she champions classical Ayurveda, high-quality clinical teaching, and personalized mentoring. Her goal: that you leave with deep knowledge, confidence in your role, and a compassionate approach.

[2]

Dr (Vaidya) Tejal Athavle-Limaye

Teacher, Ananda Ayurveda Academy

Tejal is classically trained in India, with a B.A.M.S. degree from the University of Mumbai and further training in Panchakarma from the University of Pune. She is also certified in the United States as a professional practitioner of traditional Ayurvedic medicine.

For 15 years she held consultations, workshops, and taught in Stockholm – she knows what life, food, and the seasons look like here. She was involved in developing the Panchakarma program at the Ayurvedic Center Malmö, and is currently based in Philadelphia. Her focus: integrating Ayurveda into everyday life through conscious routines, seasonal adjustments, nutrition, and self-care.

After the training

The beginning of something bigger

Certification is an end. But for many, it is the beginning of a new direction – in life or in their profession.

Through the collaboration with Ananda Ayurveda Academy, the Ayurvedic Center Malmö wants to strengthen Ayurveda in Sweden and the Nordic region. When you are done, you are part of that work.

The title Ayurveda Wellness Counselor is close to the professional role in Sweden that is often called an Ayurvedic health counselor. You will gain a foundation for guiding people in Ayurvedic lifestyle and health-promoting routines.

Whether Ayurveda becomes a personal path or your profession, we hope that the training will be part of a longer journey.
